Trustee opportunity

Role: Schools Work & Safeguarding Champion

Why this role? LVA is a growing charity with a high demand for our services working with young people in school and in the community. We are looking for someone who has experience working in a senior role within a school setting and who understands how day-to-day safeguarding is done on the front line, but also has experience of policy and procedure.

Safeguarding is the heartbeat of our work at LVA; Not only is good quality RSHE a preventative safeguarding response, but also an area where disclosures are made frequently. Therefore, we need to ensure that we are more than competent and need to be excellent in our approach and watertight in policy and procedure to protect and support our young people to the best of our ability.

What it involves:

•      Support the schools’ lead & TMP (Therapeutic Mentoring Program) lead in ensuring best practice

•      Offer advice and guidance on school policies and procedures

•      Support the safeguarding leads with complex disclosures

•      Ensure LVA safeguarding policy and procedures are up-to-date and compliant

Time requirements:

•      You will need to be available for trustee meetings which happen quarterly

•      Once a year you will need to spend time with the safeguarding lead to update our policy where appropriate and ensure it is still fit for purpose

•      Check in with the safeguarding leads once a term to keep up to date with front-line safeguarding

•      Keep trustees informed about safeguarding on the front line and as an organisation

“Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.“

THERAPEUTIC MENTORING PRORAM

VOLUNTEERS OPPORTUNITY

WHAT IS THERAPEUTIC MENTORING?

Our therapeutic mentoring programme supports students who are finding it harder to navigate their adolescent years or who have been knocked off course due to circumstances out of their control. Through a series of therapeutic exercises and activities, over 20 weeks we journey with our mentees, using our three-pronged approach (loved, valued, able).

WHAT ARE THE MODULES?

LOVED - This module has been created to help young people believe they are loved - not only by others, but also by themselves - partnered with self-esteem and knowing their worth.

VALUED - This module has been created to help young people develop their relationship skills. At LVA we believe our value is often found in our relationships – both with ourselves and others (on or offline). In this module, we begin by exploring the types of relationships – and their healthy foundations.  We then build upon these ideas, continuing to develop the qualities and expectations of our relationships.  Once we’ve established expectations and a definition of what is “healthy” – we examine what is “unhealthy.” We answer the questions: how to spot the signs of unhealthy relationship behaviour and how to cope when relationships go wrong.

ABLE - This module has been created to help young people understand themselves better, building on what they have learnt about themselves and their relationships in the previous two modules. They will learn to identify and manage their feelings safely and appropriately. This module invites them to challenge their outlook, developing a growth mindset. They will look towards the future through goal-setting and gaining the tools needed to achieve those goals.

What it involves:

•      a desire to see our young people be resilient and thrive. to know that they are valued and that their lives matters.

•      being committed to at least 20 weeks and being available during the school day

•      time requirements are flexible anything from 3 - 10 hours per week

•      you must attend all training and supervision and complete an enhanced DBS check

The Big Give Christmas Campaign 2024

December 3rd – 10th (midday)…

RSHE Workshop Christmas Campaign

We’re very excited to let you know that LVA Trust has been selected to participate in the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge.

That means that every donation made to our campaign via BigGive.org during the week of 3rd – 10th December will be doubled. That’s right – DOUBLED thanks to The Childhood Trust who are our match funders for the second year in a row! So, whatever you can give, no matter the size, every donation will make double the difference in supporting us to deliver RSHE [relationship and sex education] Workshops.

Why is RSHE so vital to our society…?

〰️“We are all worth something and we are beautiful in our own way. I really liked the educator she was very helpful and nice.” “We learned the different types of healthy and unhealthy self esteem.”

〰️ “It was interesting learning about what social media can do to your body.” “It helped me boost my confidence and self esteem.”

〰️“There was emotion and genuine urge brought up in lesson to motivate change in relationships.”

Delivering RSHE (Relationships, Sex, and Health Education) is vital because it equips vulnerable young people with the knowledge and skills, they need to navigate life’s complexities with confidence and resilience. Research shows that young people who receive high-quality RSHE are 50% less likely to experience unintended pregnancies and are significantly more likely to delay risky behaviours, including substance use and unsafe relationships. Beyond the statistics, RSHE empowers young people to feel loved, valued, and Able. It teaches them how to build healthy relationships, understand their emotions, and respect themselves and others. For those already facing challenges such as poverty, family breakdown, or mental health struggles, RSHE becomes a lifeline—offering hope and equipping them with tools to envision a brighter, safer future.

Let us stand together and champion the cause of Relationships, Sex, and Health Education (RSHE) for our young people. Each one of us has the power to make a difference in their lives—let us be the voices of hope and empowerment. By advocating for high-quality RSHE, we are investing in a generation that is equipped not only with knowledge but also with the resilience to face life’s challenges head-on.

Imagine a world where all young people feel valued and can build healthy relationships. We can create that world by supporting educational initiatives focused on their emotional and physical well-being. It's time to act—let’s educate ourselves, engage our communities, and advocate for RSHE in every school.

Together, we can empower our youth to envision a brighter future and equip them with the tools to navigate life confidently. Your involvement matters—take the first step today!
