A New Normal

Next week school education as we have known it since the beginning of the year is set to change with schools finally opening their doors again. I am hoping with every fiber of my being that this will be the last stint of homeschooling that we will have to endure and yes, I use the word endure deliberately.

I look forward to the day when my bed is just my bed and not my office, desk, zoom host space, and everything else that it has been whilst we have all fought over the “wifi” and a quiet space to think and be productive.

Just the simple routine of getting up, dressed, and going out of the house to do the school run is something that I will never take for granted ever again! Being able to leave the house and not simply walk from the lounge to the kitchen and my bedroom on repeat will be a joy and novelty.  Who knew that the comfort of something so mundane would be so much anticipated!

However, with the season of home-schooling coming to an end and essentially the ability to be able to remove one ball from the many being juggled in the air, there is still that air of uncertainty in going forwards.

Will this be the last time? What will opening the school gates do to the “R” numbers and will we be able to rest, assured that the vaccines are protecting the vulnerable?  Will we be able to continue forward on the road map that Boris laid out for us just last week?

So, as we prepare to wrap up another crazy season of life as we know it, I read somewhere that the new US president has been quoted as saying “fear never builds a future, but hope does” and that got me thinking... As we go forward into our new normal whatever that looks like, let's make sure that we carry hope with us.

The hope of spring and warmer weather, of spending time together with much missed friends and family, warm hugs and cool ice drinks in the sunshine and summer holidays outside of our houses.

Once we choose hope so much is possible! Here’s to our new normal.
